Hi All!
Thanks so much for the GREAT response! If you'd like to post your own comments, click on "# comments" that follows this entry (# being the number of comments left so far). It should open up a box that you can type a comment in. You may have to create a Google ID first (entering your name, email address, and selecting a password), but you'll only need to do it once. My mom managed to get it to work, but she's a pretty tech-savvy 69 year old, I must say! If you have any questions, just shoot me a line.

JOHN BURGESS
I am very happy to report Josh had his physical last week and is down 17 lbs since last fall. All the exercising and eating right is starting to pay off! I am very proud of him and wanted to share his achievement!
Hello Everyone!
Thanks for this John, I also recall an article in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel in which a Green Bay family was trying to break the record for the most family members to complete a marathon together. I thought this was also very inspiring. I have appreciated all the email traffic and the 'collective support' has really made a difference for me. At a family Birthday party 2 weeks ago, Jen and I were talking about how this has motivated us to get back into AM exercise. Where Jen had already started a week or two earlier ... and had the sore muscles to show for it!...I was still 'thinking about it alot'! However, I then got my butt out of bed four times that week and this has been a huge motivator! Last week I managed it 2x however ... and I am on a downslide!!!
The old distractions are working there way in ... which goes to show you behavior change is multifaceted;
especially with kids! I've discovered several other 'changes' have to take place for me to be continually successful. 1) I have to go to bed earlier ...and I am a night person; 2) I have to get things organized for myself and the kids the night before (otherwise coming home at 7:40 when the kids need to be on the bus
at 8:25 gets CRAZY!!!); 3) I need to layout my clothes at night so I can put them on half asleep (thinking is really not an option for me at 5:30 a.m.!); 4) I need to be accountable to someone else for getting to the gym at 6:00 - I am joining a class and/or setting up a personal training session this week!
Regarding a GOAL: like Pete, certain genes have gone in my favor, so I decided to have my % Body Fat tested, which I did last Wednesday am (yes, I went out the morning of the Blizzard! ... it must have wasted me though, I haven't been there since!!!). More importantly though, I think a good goal for me is maintaining a consistency of exercise. So, MY GOAL is a minimum of 4 days of exercise a week for a month, I hope to make it more, but I am looking at being realistic. Honestly, I am at my LEAST FIT probably since about age 20 as I got into fitness after that. Regarding any "-athons", I will make my decision after March. Yes, I think it would be awesome to do one as a family. However, I am staying focused on practical change for myself right now, I want to succeed at this first. My past exercise love is distance biking and I would like to look at doing the Diabetes CURE bike fundraiser in May. I am putting that out as my first 'carrot'. If any other local Dickerts want to join me ... the more the merrier!
Carry on Kinfolk!
With love,
Julie
It was so good to read the two comments added recently...Julie, I love the honesty...I just got back from walking my dachshund Bud around the block...though I have been bouncing up and down weight wise...lose 3 gain 1, lose 4, gain 2, I am at least aware that I am doing it...and also aware of my emotion ridden night time eating. One thing I have done at night is I don't go back for seconds. I sit with myself and say "wait and see if you really need and want that" I still need some snack but I try to allow for it in my supper meal. My acid reflux is better because of eating less at night. Still not in water aroebics...but have been working crazy hours at work to help out while the other gal is on vacation. Now let's hear from another Dickert. Aunt Mary Ann
Hi Everyone,
It's been a while since I've come to the site but here I am...
This summer I accomplished two challenges I set for my self in January to complete the 10 mile Lighthouse Run and delve into the world of triathlons with my first sprint distance tri.
Holly was my training partner for most of the 10 miler but ended up not being able to run it about five weeks prior. There was a small part of me that was going to bail out but I forged on and did it! Holly and Julie did the four mile run that day and they, along with dad, Dixie, Tom, the kids and my mom were there to cheer me on as I crossed the finish line.
Three weeks later Holly and I got up at 4:30am to get ready for the Danskin Sprint Distance triathlon in Pleasant Prairie along with 3,800+ women. It was an amazing experience and I highly recommend it to any Dickert ladies. There is something to be said about girl power and it was going strong that day. There were ladies of all ages and sizes, lots doing relays. So here’s my plug to Dickert women to think about the 2008 Danskin, they won’t know what him ‘em…
After these two races I took some time to enjoy the summer but am still running and tossing up the idea of a 9 ½ mile run this fall in Milwaukee, we’ll see.
Go Dickert’s!
