In case you didn't see this in his comment below, check out John Burgess's inspiring words of wisdom below! Live without chocolate? Now THAT's willpower!
"MOST OF YOU KNOW THAT I DON'T EAT VEGTABLES OR FRUIT. SO MY DIET CONSISTED MAINLY OF WHAT I DIDN'T EAT. THESE ARE THE THINGS I QUIT:
1 SODA
2 FRIED FOODS
3 POTATOES
4 ALL ITALIAN FOOD
5 WHITE BREAD
6 CANDY & COOKIES
7 CHOCOLATE
WHAT I DO EAT:
1.OATMEAL WITH FLAXSEED
2 HONEY NUT CHERRIOS
3 GRILLED FISH
4 PORK
5 CHICKEN
7 CRANBERRY JUICE DIET
8 NUTS ALMONDS NO SALTED
9 PEANUT BUTTER NON FAT
10 ANYTHING WITH LOTS OF PROTEIN
WHEN YOU EAT RIGHT USE THE RIGHT UTENCIL CHOPSTICKS WITH ONE HAND BEHIND YOUR BACK. WHEN YOU EAT READ A GOOD BOOK. LIKE THE ONE CATHY AND TOM GAVE MARGIE AND I, "YOUNGER NEXT YEAR." THIS BOOK WILL GET YOU MOTIVATED.
MY DIET'S NOT THE ONLY THING THAT HAS HELPED ME LOSE WEIGHT IT WAS ALSO THE WORK OUTS AT THE GYM 7 DAYS A WEEK. 7DAYS ON THE TREAD MILL AND 3 DAYS ON THE WEIGHT MACHINES.
BECAUSE OF THESE 2 MY DOCTOR HAS NOW TAKEN ME OFF MY DIABETIC MEDICINE AND CUT MY BLOOD PRESSURE MEDICINE IN HALF.
I FEEL LIKE THE DURACELL BUNNY MORE ENERGIZED, BUT I STILL WON'T FIT INTO A SPEEDO.
JOHN BURGESS"

POST TO THE BLOG!
Hi All!
Thanks so much for the GREAT response! If you'd like to post your own comments, click on "# comments" that follows this entry (# being the number of comments left so far). It should open up a box that you can type a comment in. You may have to create a Google ID first (entering your name, email address, and selecting a password), but you'll only need to do it once. My mom managed to get it to work, but she's a pretty tech-savvy 69 year old, I must say! If you have any questions, just shoot me a line.

2008: The Year the Dickerts Get Fit!
The idea was born on September 10, 2007. Sitting around a restaurant table with a bunch of cousins in Racine, Wisconsin the day after I completed Ironman Wisconsin, we began to discuss how we can motivate our family to get fit. Uncle Jim used to be a runner back in the day. Aunt Mary Ann did so well in the past with Weight Watchers. Could she get back to her healthy slim-and-trim self? What can the rest of us learn from John Burgess's impressive weight loss? How does Uncle Jacob stay so lean and mean?
That's when cousin Heather came up with the name: FitDickert.com. It'd be a way for us to challenge each other, inspire one another, and discuss the best ways for getting fit.
So here it is--our very own family website to post our plans for weight loss, complain about the challenges we face, let each other know about the goals we're setting, and plot out the events we're participating in as we all strive to be fit Dickerts! I'll also post good articles and tips for fitness, weight loss, and leading a healthy lifestyle, and will be inviting guest bloggers to contribute as well.
What can you do? Lots!
* Start to share now by posting comments to the blog and emailing your health and fitness goals for '08 to Carrie!
* Offer to write a guest column. I invite John Burgess to be the first by sharing his secrets for getting in shape.
* One of the best ways to meet to a fitness goal is to sign up for a race or event, be it a 5K walk or 100 mile bike ride. Do you have an event that you're training for--maybe the Lighthouse run, Spirit of Racine triathlon, or a Race for the Cure? Let me know and I'll put it on the race calendar.
* After the race, inspire us all by sending me your race report to post!
* Have photos of you or your family members getting fit? Send them to me to add to the slideshow below.
* How about a healthy recipe to share? Let's post them on our family healthy recipes website, Hungry Dickert (link to the right)!
Above all, I suggest we kick the year off with the DICKERT WEIGHT LOSS CHALLENGE! Let's pit sibling against sibling to see who can lose the most. I nominate Aunt Mary Ann (aka Mom) and Uncle Jim for round one. Lindsay would also like to see a battle of the twins: Cathie v. Carole in a DC weight-loss throwdown! If you'd like to encourage them, please consider making a donation to the "weight loss kitty" (check out sidebar to the right) At the end of 2008, the person who's lost the highest % of their original body weight will win half the kitty, while the other half will be donated to the Dickert fund in their name.
Share your thoughts and ideas with me--and let's make 2008 the fittest year yet for the extended Dickert clan!
